about the artist

For German born, New Zealand based artist, Sabine Poppe, art has created a personal sanctuary where no words are needed - a safe place where individuality and self expression are celebrated.

Inspired by the complexity and beauty of the human face,  Poppe possesses the ability to connect with her audience directly through the eyes of her portraits.  Through her bright and vibrant use of colour, and bold brushstrokes,  Poppe’s work is both exuberant and striking. As the saying goes, eyes are the windows to the soul, and through Poppe’s work, innermost feelings and emotions are revealed. Each painting has a story to tell, and a voice demanding to be heard.

As we navigate our way through times of uncertainty, Poppe’s paintings reflect and reinforce the pure joy that comes with being alive.  From here, there is a sense of escapism and happiness for those who find themselves fortunate enough to be mesmerised by her magic. “My art makes it possible for me to connect with people who see the world as I do, and who might be dreaming of a life free of boundaries, where normal rules don’t apply.”

Poppe’s paintings are highly sought after both within New Zealand, and abroad. She has won top art awards, exhibited from Paris to New York, Vienna and Zagreb to New Zealand. She has sold out solo exhibitions; and had her work published in magazines, newspapers and books; from the New York Arts Magazine to the recent book, Ko Aotearoa Tātou- We are New Zealand by M.Elvy, P.Morris and J. Norcliffe. In addition to this, Poppe is currently the World Art Games New Zealand President.
